What is ADD & ADHD ?

The initials stand for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a disorder that appears in early childhood. ADHD is a problem with inattentiveness, over-activity, impulsivity, or a combination.

You may know it by the name Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) makes it difficult for people to inhibit their spontaneous responses.

Responses that can involve everything from movement to speech and attentiveness.

So what causes ADD & ADHD?

ADD/ADHD is a neurobiologically-based developmental disability estimated to affect between 3-5% of the school age population (Professional Group for Attention and Related Disorders,1991).

No one knows exactly what causes ADD/ADHD. Scientific evidence suggests that the disorder is genetically transmitted in many cases and results from a chemical imbalance or deficiency in certain neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that help the brain regulate behavior.

In addition, a landmark study conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health showed that the rate at which the brain uses glucose, its main energy source, is lower in subjects with ADD/ADHD than in subjects without ADD/ADHD (Zametkin et al., 1990).

3 Primary Characteristics of ADD / ADHD:

  • Inattention
  • Hyperactivity
  • Impulsivity

Symptoms of hyperactivity in children:

  • Constantly fidgets and squirms
  • Often leaves his or her seat in situations where sitting quietly is expected
  • Moves around constantly, often running or climbing inappropriately
  • Talks excessively, has difficulty playing quietly
  • Is always “on the go,” as if driven by a motor

Conventional treatments for ADD & ADHD that might be questionable.

Did you know that there is new Scientific Research that Proves that Drugs like Adderall, Strattera, or Ritalin only mask the true problem of ADD/ADHD?

Between 1990 and 2000 there were 186 deaths from ADD-ADHD Drugs reported to the FDA Med-Watch program, a voluntary reporting scheme, the numbers of which represent no more than 10 to 20% of the actual incidence. So the actual number could be as many as 930 deaths or life-threatening injury related to ADD-ADHD drugs.

There has to be a better way than using only drugs to deal with ADD & ADHD.

Natural Treatments for ADD & ADHD

I must say I personally feel the biggest contributor to ADD & ADHD is today's diet and lifestyle. You must give your body a fighting chance to improve your condition with proper nutrition. If you don't your condition will get worse or at least never improve.

If the child has the proper nutrition and diet, that resolves about 85% of the child’s learning and behavior problems. My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age and with my reluctance was placed on Ritalin and it did not improve her attentiveness. After seven months I took her off the drug. After changing her diet by taking her off dairy products and gluten products, her grades improved from C's to  A's and B's. Her problem was that she was allergic to the foods she was eating and drinking.

A good start for the day begins with breakfast:

  • Avoid a “sugary” products such as sugary cereals, strudels, pop-tarts, etc.
  • Eat a good portion of protein for breakfast.
  • Protein keeps you feeling “full” much longer.
  • It will keep you off the blood sugar roller coaster.
  • Avoid drinking milk. Cows are fed with foods containing pesticides & hormones. Milk substitutes such as Rice Dream and almond milk are recommended.
  • Avoid gluten products.

I also recommend the following nutritional supplements because the foods we are eating today does not have the nutrition that are body needs on the daily basis:

Avoiding the wrong foods to eat and taking the proper nutritional supplements will take you on the right road away from this dreadful disease of ADD and ADHD.
