What type of ADHD Medications are killing you? Have I caught your attention? I hope so. My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD at a very young age and the doctor prescribed Ritalin. This ADHD medication killed her personality, spirit and her over-all well being.

The following is a list of the stimulant ADHD medications: (Please note: the “Approved age” means that the drug has been tested and found safe and effective in children of that age. The side effects and warnings for these medications are quite long.)

Trade Name  and Approved Age for 3 and older

  • Adderall
  • Dexedrine
  • Dextrostat

Trade Name  and Approved Age for 6 and older

  • Adderall XR
  • Concerta
  • Daytrana
  • Desoxyn
  • Focalin
  • Focalin XR
  • Metadate ER
  • Metadate CD
  • Methylin
  • Ritalin
  • Ritalin SR
  • Ritalin LA
  • Vyvanse

These ADHD medications don’t cure ADHD; they only control the symptoms on the day they are taken. Doctor says that these ADHD medications dramatically reduce the hyperactivity, improves the ability to focus and to learn. Well I beg to differ; my daughter was a complete zombie and her grades were C’s at best. The doctors tried another drug that made her worse.

Instead of taking ADHD medications to control the symptoms, why not find out the cause of the ADHD and work on the solution. Sometimes the solution is too difficult because there is not an immediate result; or the solution requires a lot of discipline and extreme amount of effort.

What if the solution for ADHD is simply a reaction to some of the foods we are eating or drinking? Could the diet play a major role in the ADHD?

I took my daughter off all ADHD medications after a year’s time and I am very glad that I did. She did gain some weight after taking her off the medications. Her vibrant personality was slowly coming back, but she was still struggling with her grades in school.

It wasn’t until I met a Chiropractor that was also a Kinesiologist that things started to change dramatically. He said that my daughter was suffering from food allergies that were the cause of her ADHD. She is allergic to gluten, cow’s milk, wheat and certain dairy products. My daughter has been drinking enhanced Rice Dream milk with vitamin A & D and avoiding gluten products ever since this discovery.

This story has a happy ending, my daughter is going into her senior year of high school and she is in the top 14% of her class.

Just remember ADHD medications are drugs and it is foreign for our bodies to use. The side effects sometimes are not worth the chance. Make the effort to seek out all the natural solutions for all diseases especially the ones that affect our children.
